“Sonic Attacks” in Cuba

OCB continues to monitor what has been described as a mysterious ailment by U.S. government employees in Cuba serving at the U.S. Embassy in Havana and living in housing provided by the Cuban government. This is thought to be either a “sonic attack” or perhaps surveillance equipment that is malfunctioning.

For the first time, an OCB correspondent in Washington participated directly at the State Department briefing. Radio Marti covered then Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s reiteration of Cuba’s responsibility for the yet unexplained incidents, which have reportedly affected the health of a few Canadians as well. The US State Department expelled two Cuban diplomats in response and the Trump administration stated that the expulsions were a protest of Cuba’s failure to protect diplomats under the requirements of the Vienna Conventions. The Cuban government denied harming diplomats and is cooperating with an FBI investigation.
